BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10. The volume of wheat purchased from farmers in Iran from April 5 through May 10 has decreased by 10.5 percent compared to the same period last year, Sohrab Sohrabi, an official from the Iranian Ministry of Agriculture, told reporters, Trend reports.
He said that the total wheat purchased during this period amounted to over 1.5 million tons, up from 1.37 million tons during the same timeframe in 2024.
Sohrabi mentioned that during the mentioned period, wheat was harvested from 511,000 hectares of land in the country. Of this area, 483,000 hectares are ordinary land, and 28,000 hectares are reserved land.
The official added that 12 million tons of wheat will be harvested in the country this year, and the volume of wheat purchased under guarantee is expected to be nine million.
Iran planted wheat across 6.39 million hectares this year, of which 4.22 million hectares are rainfed, and 2.17 million hectares are regular irrigated land.
In the current year (from March 21, 2025 through March 20, 2026), the guaranteed price of 1 kilogram of bread wheat in the country has been set at 205,000 rials (approximately $0.38), and the price of one kilogram of durum wheat has been set at 210,000 rials (approximately $0.39).
