Protesters gathered in downtown Washington Sunday to denounce the International Monetary Fund and World Bank during the two organizations' joint annual spring meetings, CNN reported.

About a hundred people marched from Dupont Circle to the IMF headquarters as delegates from around the world met inside to discuss the organizations' role in the global economy.

Lacy MacAuley, a spokesperson for the Washington-based Global Justice Action group, which sponsored the demonstration, said the protest was aimed at the leaders of the G-20 nations, which recently pledged $1 trillion to increase the IMF's lending capacity. "The G-20 giving more money to the IMF and World Bank so they can keep doing what they're doing is like giving drugs to someone in rehab," MacAuley said.

Sunday's peaceful protest came a day after demonstrators clashed with police as they tried to march on the streets without a permit. One police officer was injured in the scuffle.
