Turkish police have seized 600 kilograms of heroin in a truck in eastern Elazig province, governor said Saturday.

"The heroin was seized around 15.00 p.m (1300 GMT) in Keban district as a result of intelligence efforts," said Murat Zorluoglu in a press conference at Elazig police department.

Zorluoglu said the "successful" operation was held in cooperation between the narcotic police, the intelligence agency and the department of anti-smuggling and organized crime teams.

"Our police and security forces will continue to fight against drug dealers who want to poison our children and youth," the governor told reporters.

The truck, which had a snow plow attached to it, was bound from eastern province of Van to the country's largest province, Istanbul, and one man identified as M.G. was detained in the operation.

The heroin was the biggest amount seized by the authorities in 2015, the governor said.
