Iran Needs to Pay Special Attention to Sunnites who Make 25% of Population: Iranian MP

Iran, Tehran, 10 Dec/ Trend corr A. Namdari/ Sunnites make up 25% of population in Iran and local officials must take into consideration interests of religious minorities of the country, Abdulaziz Jamshidzehi, member of the Iranian parliament, said.

In his interview with Trend , representatives of Saravan city to the Iranian parliament strongly criticized activities of terrorist groups of Sunnite Jondullah in south-east of Iran. Jamshidzehi said such actions in Iran's Sistan and Belujistan provinces are unacceptable.

Jondullah terrorist group has been committing armed attack on representatives of local authorities and civilians in Sistan and Belujistan provinces for a long time. Fourteen officers of the Border Police of Iran taken hostages by Jondullah recently, were shot.

Jamshidzehi said the body of shot people has not been found yet.

"Some members of Jondullah have been arrested," said Kazim Jalili, secretary of the Commission on National Security of the Iranian parliament. They are accused of killing 14 officers of Iran's Border Police. They will be convicted soon.

Jamshidzehi said he does not have information about arrest of some members of Jondullah.

"Unlike Iran's remaining provinces, situation in Iran's Sistan and Belujistan provinces is more dangerous. Officials need to take measures to eliminate factors undermining stability in this province," Jamshidzehi said to Trend .
