Azerbaijani President arrives in Istanbul to participate in ECO summit

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived on Wednesday in Istanbul to attend a meeting of Heads of States and Governments of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Cihan news agency reported.

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev arrived on Wednesday in Istanbul to attend a meeting of Heads of States and Governments of the Economic Cooperation Organization (ECO), the Cihan news agency reported.

Senior representatives of the Turkish government met President Aliyev at the Ataturk International Airport.

According to Turkish media, President Aliyev is expected to meet with Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan today.

On Dec. 23 Istanbul will host the 11th Summit of Heads of States and Governments of the ECO. Prior to this, Istanbul hosts the meeting of senior officials and the meeting of the Council of Ministers of ECO on Dec.21-23.

ECO was founded in 1985 by Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. Today the organization also includes Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.
