Sixth candidate submits documents to the CEC to participate in the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan

Sixth candidate has submitted documents to the Central Election Commission (CEC) to participate in the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, head of the press service of the CEC Azer Sariyev told Trend on Thursday.

According to Sariyev, the sixth candidate for the presidency was the chairman of "Umid" party Iqbal Aghazade.

Earlier, the Central Election Commission had submitted documents of the five candidates.

Candidates are: from the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" Party (YAP) - chairman of the party, the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, candidate from "Azadlig" party - chairman of party Ahmed Orudj, from Citizens and Development Party - party chairman Ali Aliyev, Azerbaijan Liberal Party - party chairman Fuad Aliyev and lawyer Ilgar Mamedov (Altai), who put forward the candidacy of its own motion.

The nomination for the presidential elections started in Azerbaijan.

The CEC decided to hold the presidential elections on October 9. The previous presidential elections were held on October 15, 2008. The presidential elections are held in Azerbaijan every five years.
