Poland is interested in co-operating with Azerbaijan to ensure alternative energy sources, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Poland, Vilayet Guliyev, briefed the media on 8 November in Baku, Trend reports.

Speaking about the energy dependence of Poland on Russia, the diplomat remembered that Warsaw receives gas from Russia with the prices that are realized with European Union countries ($200-300). Last winter the gas delivery from Russia to Poland was stopped and this imposed large problems. Presently the Polish Head is holding negotiations with Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and the countries of the Near East to mitigate its dependence on Russia, he said.

Guliyev added that Azerbaijan has direct and indirect trade relations with Poland and the trade turnover alters between $20 and $60 mln. He emphasized that Azerbaijan is interested in visits to Azerbaijan by the Poles, and that relations with regard to the tourism are not satisfactory due to the lack of information and the absence of a direct airline route.

Touching upon opening the direct air flights, the Ambassador stressed that the economic factor plays a significant role here, and if there are enough passengers and business interests, the direct air flights will be implemented.
