Azerbaijan tacks on nation's agricultural output

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 16. The volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan at actual prices reached 7.508 billion manat, or $4.416 billion, from January through July 2024, a 0.8 percent increase compared to the same period in 2023, Trend reports.

According to the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan, the value of animal husbandry production rose by 1.5 percent to 3.671 billion manat or $2.159 billion, while crop production increased by 0.2 percent to 3.836 billion manat or $2.256 billion, during this period.

As of August 1, 2024, the total area of fall and spring crops, including perennial grasses, reached 1.637 million hectares, an increase of 102,100 hectares or 6.7 percent from the previous year. Of this increase, 44.3 percent is attributed to agricultural enterprises, and 2.1 percent to individual entrepreneurs, family farms, and households.

Among the sown areas, 1.025 million hectares, or 62.6 percent, are dedicated to cereal crops. This includes 550,700 hectares (53.7 percent) for wheat, 420,700 hectares (41 percent) for barley, 29,300 hectares (2.9 percent) for maize, 14,000 hectares (1.4 percent) for pulses, and 10,100 hectares (1 percent) for other cereals.

Technical crops cover 127,900 hectares (7.8 percent), potatoes, vegetables, and melons account for 128,700 hectares (7.9 percent), and fodder crops occupy 355,500 hectares (21.7 percent).

From January through July 2024, Azerbaijan produced 331,200 tons of meat, 1.312 million tons of milk, and 1.385 billion chicken eggs. Meat production increased by 1.3 percent, milk by 0.5 percent, and chicken eggs by 6.2 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

In 2023, the volume of agricultural production in Azerbaijan at actual prices was 12.21 billion manat, or $7.18 billion, up 3 percent from 2022. Animal husbandry production rose by 3.2 percent to 6.276 billion manat, or $3.691 billion, while crop production increased by 2.7 percent to 5.933 billion manat, or $3.489 billion.
