Azerbaijan sees surge in non-oil exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 31. The value of Azerbaijan's non-oil exports from January through September 2024 amounted to $2.5 billion, an increase of 1.3 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

Data obtained by Trend from the October "Export Review" of the Center for Analysis of Economic Reforms and Communications of Azerbaijan shows that food exports grew by 13.3 percent, amounting to $698.3 million in the reporting period.

Azerbaijan’s sugar and confectionery exports surged by 83.3 percent, while cotton fiber exports increased by 70.9 percent in the first nine months of this year. Other notable rises included vegetable oils and fats, which grew by 31.7 percent, chemical products by 20.9 percent, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages by 11.6 percent. Processed fruit and vegetable products also saw an increase of 14.6 percent.

Agricultural product exports rose by 60 percent, totaling $233.4 million, while the combined agricultural and agro-industrial exports increased by 17.8 percent, reaching $755.4 million in the reporting period.

In the non-oil sector, cotton seeds led with $150.7 million, followed by tomatoes at $139.6 million and gold at $115.3 million in the first 9 months of this year.

Azerbaijan’s non-oil exports to the Russian Federation reached $843.7 million, while Türkiye received $435.1 million, Georgia $195.1 million, Switzerland $119.6 million, and the US $113 million from January through September 2024.

Russia emerged as the leading importer of non-oil goods in September 2024, totaling $91.7 million, followed by Türkiye at $40.5 million and Georgia at $37.4 million.

Gold was the standout product in September, with exports valued at $18.8 million. It was closely followed by electricity at $17 million and hazelnuts at $13.3 million.

The Export Review for September 2024 indicates that non-oil exports facilitated through the Single Window Export Support Center amounted to $22.5 million.

The top ten non-state exporting entities for January through September 2024 include: MKT Production Commerce LLC, Silk Way West Airlines LLC, ASG Business Aviation LLC, Baku Steel Company CJSC, Suleymanova Govhar Suleyman gizi individual enterprise, Azerbaijan Sugar Production Association LLC, Atena LLC, Tabaterra CJSC, P-agro LLC, and My Vegetables LLC.

Leading the list of state-owned companies involved in non-oil exports is the Marketing and Economic Operations Department of SOCAR. Other notable participants include Socar Polymer LLC, Azeraluminium LLC, AzerGold CJSC, Azerenerji OJSC, Azerpambıq Agrar Industrial Complex LLC, Azerbaijan Airlines CJSC, State Energy Service of Nakhchivan AR, Surakhani Machine Building Plant OJSC, and Azeripek LLC.
