ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 4. The head of the Samruk-Kazyna Fund JSC Nurlan Zhakupov held a meeting with the Senior Vice President of Wabtec for the regions of Russia/CIS, Europe, the Middle East, and Africa Gokhan Bayhan, during which the parties discussed issues of bilateral cooperation, Trend reports.
The American company owns the Lokomotiv Kurastyru Zauyty (LKZ)
(Locomotive Assembly Plant), the main customer of the plant is the
portfolio company of the Fund, Kazakhstan Railways. To date, 582
locomotives (freight, passenger, and shunting) have been
supplied.
Thanks to the Fund's procurement system, Kazakhstan Railways has
the opportunity to conclude long-term off-take contracts with
factories, which provides Kazakhstani manufacturers with a
guaranteed sales volume.
A Wabtec representative emphasized that the Fund's procurement
procedures comply with international transparency standards. Nurlan
Zhakupov also noted the importance of further localization of
production.
To note, in November 2024, the American company Wabtec gratuitously
transferred the KinetiX system for monitoring and diagnosing
rolling stock based on AI to Kazakhstan Railways. The system is
planned to be launched into operation in July 2025.
