BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 14.​ The total cargo turnover of the Baku International Sea Trade Port OJSC increased by 3.2 percent in 2024 compared to 2023, reaching 7.6 million tons, with 5.3 million tons, or 70.1 percent, accounted for by transit cargo, Trend reports via the report on the activities of the Cabinet of Ministers of Azerbaijan for 2024.

During the reporting year, the number of wagons handled increased by 0.2 percent, totaling 37,500 units. Of these wagons, 23,100 units, or 61.5 percent, moved on the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku route, while 14,400 units, or 38.5 percent, moved on the Baku-Kuryk/Aktau-Baku route.

The number of large-sized transport vehicles (TIRs) increased by 7.2 percent compared to 2023, totaling 58,200 units. Of these vehicles, 29,400 units (50.5 percent) were transported on the Baku-Turkmenbashi-Baku route, and 28,800 units (49.5 percent) were transported on the Baku-Kuryk-Baku route.

The handling of containers increased by 73.4 percent in TEU equivalent, reaching 76,800 units compared to 2023.

In 2024, crude oil and oil product handling at the Dubendi Oil Terminal decreased by 13.8 percent compared to 2023, with a total volume of 1.8 million tons. At the General Cargo Terminal, dry cargo handling increased by 0.4 percent in 2024 compared to 2023, totaling 1,044,000 tons.

Moreover, the port's revenue increased by 7 percent, reaching 53.8 million manat ($31.5 million), and this figure has grown by 25 percent over the past three years, according to the relevant analysis by an international audit company.

In 2024, the port paid a total of 13.8 million manat ($8.1 million) to the state budget.
