Kazakhstan can export seven million tons of grain in 2013, Kazakh Minister of Agriculture Asylzhan Mamytbekov said after a government meeting today.
"We estimate our potential in terms of grain exports this year to the sum of seven million tons," he said. "This is slightly below the average, but less than last year's marketing year. We exported 12.8 million tons during that period."
He said that Kazakhstan has already exported about 3.3 million tons of grain since the beginning of the marketing year. He also added that there will not be large volumes of grain supplies going to Russia.
"We see Russia as self-sufficient in grain, so unfortunately one must not expect large volumes of supplies going to Russia," he said. "We do not rule out some supplies to the border areas. Russia itself is a major exporter. Our traditional market is in the south."
