Uzbekenergo State Joint Stock Company (SJSC) announced a tender for selection of a consultant for the construction of a new thermal power plant in Syrdarya region.
Consulting services include the development of the feasibility study of the project, tender documents and other materials, according to the announcement published in the local media.
The deadline for submission of bids is July 29. The thermal power plant includes two combined-cycle gas turbines (CCGT) with power of 450 megawatts each.
Earlier it was reported that Uzbekenergo plans to implement a project for the modernization of Syrdarya thermal power plant with the construction of two CCGTs with a total capacity of 900 megawatts, 450 megawatts each. At the same time, it was planned to decommission three units of the thermal power plant with a total capacity of 900 megawatts.
Representative of Uzbekenergo told Trend that currently it is decided to abandon the project of modernization and to build a new thermal power plant near the existing electric power station. After the completion of the construction, the power units N3, N9 and N10 at the current Syrdarya thermal power plant will be decommissioned (the total capacity is 900 megawatts).
"According to experts, it is technically easier and economically more profitable to build a new thermal power plant," the representative said.
The cost of the project, according to preliminary estimates, will amount to $910 million.
Construction of a new thermal power plant is scheduled to begin in 2016 and finish in 2018.
The installed capacity of Syrdarya thermal power plant, the largest thermal power plant in Central Asia, is 3,000 megawatts (10 units of 300 megawatts each). The annual volume of power output to the integrated energy system of the republic is 13 billion kilowatt/hours, or 32 percent of the total electricity volume generated in Uzbekistan.
