High-speed railway will be built in three more southern provinces of Turkey, the country’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime and Communications told Trend.
According to the ministry, the high-speed railway will be built among the provinces of Malatya, Elazig and Diyarbakir.
A tender will be announced in order to attract a contractor for the railway construction.
The length of the new high-speed railway will be 121 kilometers, said the ministry.
Earlier, the country’s plans were announced on holding a tender for construction of a high-speed railway, which will connect the provinces of Erzincan, Erzurum and Kars.
It should be noted that currently, the length of high-speed railways is 1,213 kilometers and the work is underway on the construction of 4,000 kilometers. Along with this, research work is also carried out for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers.
“The length of high-speed railway lines will be brought up to 10,000 kilometers in the country until 2023,” said the ministry previously.
Meanwhile, as part of the Hedef 2023 (Goal 2023) plan of the Turkish government, it is envisaged to reconstruct the obsolete railway lines.
It should be noted that the first railway was built in Turkey’s Izmir province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
