A high-speed railway, which will connect the Turkish provinces of Malatya and Elazig, will be commissioned in 2019, the country’s Ministry of Transport, Maritime Affairs and Communications told Trend Nov. 20.
“The length of the high-speed railway, according to the construction plans, will be 121 kilometers,” the ministry said.
Currently, the length of high-speed railway lines in Turkey is 1,213 kilometers and construction of another 4,000 kilometers of railway lines continues.
Also, research is being conducted for the construction of additional 5,000 kilometers of railway lines.
It is expected that the length of high-speed railway lines will be brought up to 10,000 kilometers in the country until 2023.
Turkey’s first railway was built in Izmir province in 1860. Its length was 357 kilometers.
