Russian Railways Logistics JSC (RZD) and Container Corporation of India (CONCOR), the largest rail container transport operator in India, have recently signed the MoU for providing logistics services on INTSC (International North–South Transport Corridor), which according to Iranian Road official, is in line with the development of the Chabahar-Zahedan railway.
“We will achieve good results in order to reduce tariffs in the North-South Corridor,” the Deputy Minister of Roads & Urban Development & President of RMTO, I. R. of Iran. Shahram Adamnejad told Trend referring to the decisions to be taken during the two-day meeting of the seventh Coordinating Council for INSTC in Tehran.
The 7th Coordination Committee Forum and 8th Specialists’ Forum of the International North-South Transport Corridor were held on March 4 and 5 in Tehran’s Parsian Evin Hotel.
Representatives of 13 countries, all of which are located along the INSTC, have been invited to attend the two-day forum.
Adamnejad said that one of the possibilities for the Corridor that Iran hopes for - is to use it for passenger traffic.
He also said that the balanced tariff policy is being considered, however, at a larger scale, all members of the council are trying to reduce the end-cost.
“The North-South Corridor has been an efficient route for all countries, especially the founding countries, and we can increase this capacity,” he added.
Referring the Iran's actions to develop Corridor, he said that the Qazvin-Rasht railway was the most important missing link of this corridor that will be inaugurated on Wednesday.
“The network for the Corridor is being completed, whether in rail or road. At some points, we have problems, especially at the points of connection of this corridor to the neighboring countries (borders),” he said.
“One of the priorities of the Ministry of Roads and Urban Development is to solve these problems,” he added.
Referring to the Zahedan-Chabahar railroad he said that the reality requires for the change of the business model, as there is no possibility of expanding the infrastructure at this level.
He also said that the Indian side is interested in investing in the Zahedan-Chabahar railroad.
“We hope that this project will be operational,” said Adamnejad.
He also referred to the agreement between India and Russia for the development of the north-east corridor and said that "this agreement is also in line with the development of the Chabahar-Zahedan railway."
