Baku, Azerbaijan, April 8
By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:
The import and sale of red meat to Iran at low and half prices has been ceased, Abbas Gubadi, secretary of Iran's Market Regulatory Committee, said.
From now on, red meat will be imported through NIMA currency and the price of this product will be set on the basis of the demand and supply principle, Gubadi added, Trend reports referring to Tasnim News Agency.
Gubadi said that until recently, the imported red meat has been sold in the market on the basis of 42,000 rials per $1.
Iran is a producer of red meat, about 90 percent of the country's needs are ensured in the country.
Only 10 percent is imported, he said.
Gubadi said that once the red meat market faced a problem. That is why the government intervened in this process. But presently, the market is self-regulating.
The price of meat in Iranian markets increased up to 1.2 million rials (about $28.5). The government increased import of red meat to regulate the market, he said.
NIMA is a system intended for the sale of a certain percentage of the foreign currency gained from the sale non-essential goods and export. The price of 1 euro in this system is 107,000 rials, and the price of $1 is 94,500 rials.
