The new airport in Tokat province in northern Turkey will be commissioned by the end of 2020, a source in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure of Turkey told Trend on July 8.
The airport’s construction continues and more than 40 percent of the construction work has been completed, according to the source.
The ministry noted that the total area of the new terminal at Tokat airport will be 560,000 square meters. “The length of the runway at Tokat airport will be 1,900 meters and the width - 30 meters,” the source added. “The airport will be able to receive 4,300 planes annually.”
The airport will serve 150,000 passengers annually.
At the same time, the ministry didn’t mention the total cost of the project.
The first airport in Turkey was built in 1912 and was used for military purposes. In 1953, Istanbul airport was opened for international flights for the first time, and in 1985, it was renamed in honor of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Ataturk.
