Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr.I.Khalilova / The Azerbaijani Association of Credit Unions reported on 11 July that for the first time, Azerbaijan would attend the World Credit Union Conference 2007. The conference will be held in Calgary, Canada from 29 July to 1 August 2007. Representatives of Credit Unions from about forty countries will participate in the conference.
The four-day conference will focus attention on current problems of industry, innovation, and ideas, which can be used in Credit Unions. Within the framework of the conference, a forum for members of the Interactive Systems of Credit Unions of Canada will be held, as well as the participants of the conference will visit Credit Unions of the country for becoming familiarized with their activities.
Majid Asadov, the Director General of the 'Executive Credit Agency' (ECA), and Huseyn Huseynov, the Director of the 'Development and Crediting of Agriculture' project of the State Agency on Agriculture Crediting at the Azerbaijani Agriculture Ministry, will represent Azerbaijan at the conference.
The Association of Credit Unions of Azerbaijan was founded in 2003. The main aim of the association is lobbying for credit unions, development of credit unions in the country, as well as trainings for the achievement of general goals. The Association of Credit Unions of Azerbaijan is the founder of the ECA. The Association has not yet become a member of the WOCCU, but is planning to join WOCCU in 2008.
