In 2018, it is planned to export 2 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan to Turkey via the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP), Head of the Investments Division of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR Vagif Aliyev said at a meeting with Turkish reporters on May 29.
He noted that gas from the Shah Deniz field was first pumped on May 29 through a system built within the second stage of the Shah Deniz development..
"TANAP will be launched in Eskisehir on June 12. Thus, one more element of the Southern Gas Corridor system will be put into operation. Commercial gas will be supplied to BOTAS system from late June. In general, it is planned to export about 2 billion cubic meters of gas through TANAP in 2018," Aliyev said.
He noted that the export will increase by two billion cubic meters yearly.
"Thus, starting 2020, Turkey will receive an additional of six billion cubic meters of gas within the Shah Deniz 2 project through TANAP," Aliyev said.
TANAP project envisages transportation of gas from Azerbaijan's Shah Deniz field to the western borders of Turkey. The gas will be delivered to Turkey in 2018 and after completion of the Trans Adriatic Pipeline's construction the gas will be delivered to Europe in early 2020.
The length of TANAP is 1,850 kilometers with an initial capacity of 16 billion cubic meters of gas. Around six billion cubic meters of this gas is meant to be delivered to Turkey, with the remaining volume to be supplied to Europe.
The TANAP shareholders are as follows: Southern Gas Corridor CJSC - 51 percent, SOCAR Turkey Enerji - 7 percent, Botas - 30 percent, BP - 12 percent.
