Kazakhstan’s oil refineries are currently operating on maximum lowered capacities due to the fact that quarantine regime has been introduced in the country's major cities and consumption of petroleum products has dropped, Trend reports with reference to KazMunayGas National Company.
The company that that currently four ventures refine oil in Kazakhstan: Atyrau Refinery, Pavlodar Petrochemical Refinery, PetroKazakhstan Oil Products (Shymkent refinery), and CASPI BITUM plant.
Thus, demand for main petroleum products has significantly decreased in Apr. 2020: demand for cars petrol and diesel fuel decreased by 40 percent, for jet fuel by 70 percent.
“In order to avoid oversupply, the volume of oil refinery and petroleum products production at the Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent refineries has been decreased to the minimum. Plants continue their operation,” the report said.
As a result of modernization of Atyrau, Pavlodar and Shymkent refineries implemented in 2019, demand in petroleum products on the local market became fully covered by these plants. The capacity of oil refining at these plants was increased to 17.5 million tons a year, depth of refining was increased to 90 percent.
Excess of petrol produces was exported to foreign countries in 2019. The volume of hydrocarbons refining in Kazakhstan amounted to 13.8 million tons in 2019 which is 3 percent more than in 2018.
The volume of petroleum products production amounted to 12.5 million tons in 2019, which is 361,000 tons (3 percent) more than in 2018.
