Construction of freeways and investment in transportation infrastructure would reduce fuel consumption in the country, said Deputy Minister of Road and Urban Development Amir Mahmoud Ghafari, Trend reports citing ILNA.
"Infrastructure is important in the development process, and the freeways would add more effect to the sustainable development," said Ghafari.
"Development of freeways would reduce the road accidents and have positive social and economic effect," he said.
"Roads could create access to trade, export and importing necessary goods, agriculture products and tourism. Provinces with secure roads could be transit route for passengers and commodity and eventually form economic corridors," he said.
"Utilizing transit capacities in roads and connection to the International North – South Transportation Corridor could create jobs and develop transportation," he said.
"More than 240 million vehicles are moving along the country's freeways annually, so the new freeways would reduce gasoline consumption to 270 million liters per year," he said.
