Iran can export 1,400-megawatt hours of electricity to four countries - Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq and Turkey under normal conditions, Managing Director of Iran’s Thermal Power Plants Holding Company Mohsen Tarztalab told ISNA, Trend reports.
According to Tarztalab, the launch of a 160-megawatt steam unit of the Shirvan combined cycle power plant in the North Khorasan Province (northeastern Iran) has made it possible to export electricity to other provinces of Iran and the eastern border (Afghanistan).
The director added that the net value of Iran's electricity exports to the four countries amounts to about $800 million a year.
"However, Iran also imports electricity. After deducting funds for electricity imports, Iran's net revenues amount to about $550 million," he said.
Yesterday on Jan. 31, the 3rd steam unit of the Shirvan combined cycle power plant was put into operation in Iran's North Khorasan Province. This power plant has 6 gas and 3 steam units. The electricity generation capacity of the power plant is 1,430 megawatt-hours.
A total of 41 trillion rials (about $976 million) was spent on the construction of the 3rd steam unit of the power plant.
As reported, Iran's electricity generation capacity is 85,000 megawatt-hours at present.
