Internet prices in Azerbaijan are lower than the average prices in the region, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said.
"Internet prices in Azerbaijan are lower than the average prices in the region," he said.
Internet prices function on a free market and are not regulated by the government, Abbasov added.
"It is impossible to cut prices directly. We are taking definite measures, but there is a flexibility period," he said. "For instance, we decided to cut prices in December. We will examine the issue in the summer."
In December, the IT Ministry decided to cut Internet prices.
Providers cut Internet prices in January 2009.
The Coordination Council on Internet Development under the ministry will discuss the current situation on the market, including further price cuts in the near future.
Recommendations will be made if necessary.
The prices for ADSL services in Azerbaijan now meet the average prices in the region.
The price for a monthly unlimited package at 1Mbit/s is 60-165 manat in Azerbaijan.
In Georgia, the price is 140 manat.
In Ukraine, the price is 30-130 manat.
In Belorus, the price is 240-380 manat.
In Moldova, the price is 10-135 manat.
In Russia, the price depends on the region and ranges from 12-135 manat.
In Kazakhstan, the price is 120 manat.
In Armenia, the price for an unlimited package at 1024/128 kilobit/s is 80 manat.
In Kyrgyzstan, the price for an unlimited package at 128/128 kilobit/s is 60 manat.
The ministry will periodically monitor Internet prices.
