BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 10. Some $11 million will be allocated to the development of agriculture in the Batken region of Kyrgyzstan, as was stated at the conference in Bishkek, Trend reports.

This funding comes as part of a larger initiative by the World Bank (WB), which has earmarked $50 million for the rehabilitation and socio-economic development of the Batken region. The specific project aimed at agricultural development will be implemented by Community Development and Investment Agency of Kyrgyzstan (ARIS).

During the conference, experts from ARIS organization presented the objectives, directions, and opportunities of the agricultural sector development project. Kyrgyzstan’s AgroWay Company shared the outcomes of a comprehensive study on the potential of agriculture and agribusiness in the Batken region.

The main goal of the conference was to present and discuss the research results within the framework of the project's second component and establish collaboration with stakeholders.

As a result, the conference participants adopted a resolution, according to which each rural administration should create work plans and projects to access preferential commodity loans, by September.

The World Bank has been actively supporting Kyrgyzstan since 1992. Over the course of the partnership, the WB has invested $2.7 billion in 149 projects, providing technical assistance, advisory services, and analytical support to various key sectors of Kyrgyzstan’s economy.
