BISHKEK, Kyrgyzstan, July 25. Kyrgyz Railways (Kyrgyz Temir Zholu) state enterprise transported over 4 million tons of cargo in the first half of 2024, Deputy General Director Abdes Anarbekov announced at a press conference, Trend reports.
Anarbekov also reported that more than 109,000 passengers traveled via Kyrgyz Railways in the first six months of 2024, including 6,970 passengers on international routes (Bishkek-Samara, Bishkek-Novosibirsk, and Bishkek-Kazan).
In June 2024, Kyrgyz Railways conducted extensive mid-level repairs on the mainline and completed major repairs on five passenger carriages and one freight carriage during the reporting period, he added.
According to data from the National Statistical Committee, the total volume of cargo transported by all modes of transport in the country reached 23.838 million tons in the first half of 2024.
This figure increased by 1.5 million tons, or 6.8 percent, compared to January–June of the previous year. In June this year, cargo transportation by all modes increased by 0.4 million tons, or 11.5 percent, compared to June of the previous year and by 11.5 percent compared to the previous month.
