DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, July 18. Tajikistan's Pamir Energy Company is building its third solar power plant in the Murghob district of the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region (GBAO), Trend reports.
According to the company, the existing plants in the district center have shown good results. Based on this experience, additional solar power plants are planned for construction and commissioning in this region by the end of 2025. The capacity of the solar plants in the district ranges from 33 to 2600 kW.
Villages such as Alichur, Bulunkul, Beshkunbez, Chechekde, Tokhtamish, and others will be electrified. For the first time in a long while, even the most remote residents of GBAO will receive quality electricity.
It is noted that the Murghab district is the largest and most remote region in the area. The settlements are spread over large distances, making the construction of large energy facilities unfeasible. Therefore, building solar power plants has been recognized as the optimal solution.
The construction of the solar power plants is part of the Tajikistan Rural Electrification Project (TREP), supported by the World Bank. The first phase of TREP has been completed, providing electricity access to residents of 26 settlements in GBAO. The second phase, which aims to electrify the remaining 35 settlements, is planned for completion by 2025.
