Tajikistan reports distribution of bank cards by payment systems

DUSHANBE, Tajikistan, October 9. The National Bank of Tajikistan has reported on the distribution of bank payment cards by payment systems as of June 30, 2024, Trend reports.

The national payment system Korti Milli accounts for 57.8 percent of the total share of bank cards, while Express Pay Korti Milli holds 13 percent, and Union Pay Korti Milli is at 10.7 percent. Visa makes up 11.2 percent, local payment cards from financial organizations account for 3.5 percent, MasterCard is at 2.5 percent, Express Pay is at 1 percent, and Union Pay is at 0.3 percent.

In terms of regional distribution, 31 percent of cards are in Dushanbe, 26 percent in the Khatlon region, 25 percent in Sughd, 17 percent in areas under republican jurisdiction, and 2 percent in the Gorno-Badakhshan autonomous region.

As of the reporting date, a total of 7.6 million bank payment cards have been issued in Tajikistan, reflecting a 28.7 percent increase in comparison to the corresponding period last year.

Moreover, cashless transactions using electronic payment methods (bank cards and electronic wallets) saw a 91.6 percent increase year-on-year in the first half of 2024, the number of transactions, and a 2.3-times increase in the total payment volume.
