Preparations are underway in Turkmenistan for the construction of a new high-voltage transmission line to connect power systems between Akhal and Balkan regions within the first stage of the project on creating a ring power system, Trend reports on Oct.23 citing Business Turkmenistan.
The country’s Deputy Prime Minister Charymurad Purchekov spoke about the respective activities at a regular online meeting of the government.
Purchekov noted that the work on laying the power lines was carried out by the forces of domestic power engineers. For carrying out activities at a high organizational level in the case of commissioning of a new transmission line prepared in accordance with the plan.
He also said that for the implementation of this large-scale project was purchased the necessary equipment, materials and vehicles.
The official stressed that with the introduction of a new high-voltage transmission line, which connects the two regions of Turkmenistan, will not only increase the reliability of energy supply to domestic consumers, but will also be able to create the necessary technical capacity.
Summarizing the report, the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the forthcoming entry into the construction of a new high-voltage transmission line Akhal-Balkan marks the first stage of the large-scale energy project, the main purpose of which is the unification of energy.
The project to create a ring power system in Turkmenistan is implemented by the state concern Turkmenenergogurlusyk. The completion of the construction, financed by the Asian Development Bank, is scheduled for 2023.
Earlier it was reported that Turkmenistan in August of this year began to export electricity to Kyrgyzstan. By the end of the year, Turkmenistan exports 501.9 million kilowatt-hours of electricity to Kyrgyzstan.
At the present time, Turkmenistan is actively joining the single power system of Central Asia and plays an important role in creating additional opportunities for further expansion of volumes of electricity supplies to the Turkmen electricity grid.
By 2025, Turkmenistan expects to increase electricity exports by 8.7 percent.
The increase in exports will be facilitated by the construction of new power plants, power transmission lines, modern transformer substations and distribution facilities.
Earlier, the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan said that there are opportunities for the transmission of Turkmen electricity in transit through Afghanistan to Tajikistan. By 2030, the Caspian country plans to produce up to 35.5 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity.
