Iran's foreign ministry has called on all sides involved in the recent bloody conflict in Egypt to exercise restraint and to help to end the escalating violence unleashed after the army's overthrow of Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi.

The recent incidents may lead to an internal war in Egypt. This situation will not be in favour of civilians. The Foreign Affairs Ministry of Islamic Republic of Iran warns about dangerous consequences of this situation in the region and stresses that it is necessary to stop these incidents as soon as possible, the foreign ministry's statement said.

On Sunday, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Abbas Araqchi said "There is no doubt that the Egyptian people are vigilant about any attempt by the enemies to derail their revolution".

"We call on all national and Islamic institutions, organizations, and figures in Egypt to respect national unity, the fundamental rights of the people, and the principles of a democratic trend to help pave the way for dialogue, national reconciliation, and the establishment of a civil society," Araqchi added.
