BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 10. The part of the reverse lane of the second section of Iran's Tehran-North highway in Alborz province with a length of 22 km will be put into operation at the beginning of the next Iranian year (from March 21, 2025, through March 20, 2026), the Deputy Minister of Roads and Urban Development of Iran and Executive Director of Iran's Transportation Infrastructure Construction and Development Company Khairullah Khademi said during the inspection of the highway, Trend reports.
According to him, construction works on the 15.5-km second section of the Tehran-North highway will be completed by the end of the year (March 20, 2025).
Khademi added that 60 tunnels with a total length of 39.2 kilometers have been constructed and 29 bridges have been built on the second section of the highway. This demonstrates that the construction works are complicated.
He noted that 80 percent of the works on the second section of the highway have been completed, and the main works related to digging tunnels and building bridges have been completed.
The deputy minister stressed that about 293 trillion rials (about $662 million) should be spent on the construction of the second part of the highway. About 146 trillion rials (about $329 million) have been spent so far, and 147 trillion rials (about $333 million) are needed to complete the remaining sum.
To note, the Tehran-North highway connects Tehran Province with the city of Chalus in Mazandaran Province, located in the north of Iran. This highway consists of four parts. The length of the first section is 32 km, the length of the second section is 22 km, the length of the third section is 47 km, and the length of the fourth section is 20 km. The fourth section was put into operation in 2015. Considering the increasing number of visits to the northern regions of Iran during vacations, the construction of this highway is in the focus of attention.
