Iran’s electricity production capacity set for major increase

BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 23. Iran is set to add an additional 6,000 megawatt-hours of electricity to its national grid by the summer of next year, Iran’s Minister of Energy, Abbas Aliabadi, told reporters, Trend reports.

Aliabadi noted that around half of this increase will come from renewable energy power stations.

The official added that the country's electricity production has already increased by 3,000 megawatts over the past few months.

The Minister also highlighted that, since the Islamic Revolution, more than $100 billion has been invested in the country's electricity network, leading to a thirteenfold increase in Iran’s electricity production capacity.

To note, Iran's total electricity generation capacity amounts to 93,455,000 megawatt-hours. Of this, 76,257 megawatt-hours come from thermal power plants, 12,144 megawatt-hours from hydroelectric plants, 2,485 megawatt-hours from retail stations, 1,347 megawatt-hours from renewable energy sources, and the Bushehr nuclear power plant provides 1,020 megawatts, with a diesel capacity of 408 megawatts.
