Head of Iran's Fisheries Organization Hassan Salehi said that the organization expects the country to produce 30,000 metric tons of shrimp in the current Iranian-calendar year (to end March 20, 2016).
That would mean a growth of 8000 metric tons compared to the preceding year, Mehr news agency reported April 12.
According to the plans we have made, this year our shrimp cultivation area will increase by 2000 hectares, improving last year's 7000 hectare area to 9000 hectares.
In the Iranian month of Bahman (January 21 to February 19), 2,300 metric tons of shrimp were exported whereas the number was 600 metric tons for the same period of the preceding year.
Shrimp export for 11 months hit 10,020 metric tons, worth $47 million. This meant a share of 19 percent in weight and 24 percent in value of the total fisheries export.
Salehi also pointed to the production of trout in Iran and said that the organization expects the production of trout to grow by 10-12 percent for the current Iranian year.
Trout saw 20 percent export growth, hitting 3000 metric tons during the first 11 months of the previous Iranian year.
Iran's fishery export in the first 11 months of the previous Iranian fiscal year hit 52000 metric tons with a value of $173 million.
