Iran's power sector consumed about 12.686 billion cubic meters of natural gas since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2015) to June 5.
The figure indicates a rise by 16.5 percent compared to the same period of preceding year, Iran 's energy ministry said in its latest statistics, released June 11.
Iranian thermal power plants also consumed about 307 million liters of gas oil as well as 646 million liters of fuel oil for electricity generation during the period.

The country's total "power generation capacity" accounted for 73,157 MW, which indicates an eight MW increase during the current fiscal year.
Iran's power plants generated over 55.454 billion kilowatt hours of electricity since the beginning of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2014) to June 5, according to the report.
The Islamic Republic's thermal power plants produced 52.823 billion kilowatt hours of electricity during the period. Meanwhile hydroelectric power plants shared 2.631 billion kilowatt hours of the country's total electricity production.
On the other hand, the country's power export decreased by 30 percent to 1.764 billion kilowatt hours, while imports increased by eight percent to 1.02 billion kilowatt hours in this period.
According to the Iran 's Energy Ministry's annual report, the country produced 276.2 billion kilowatt hours (KWh) of electricity, while it exported above 9.9 billion KWh and imported 3.77 billion KWh during the last fiscal year.
The Islamic Republic currently trades power with Turkey, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq.
