Iran’s copper concentrate output amounted to 982,095 tons in the first 11 months of the current Iranian fiscal year (March 20, 2016-Feb. 21).
The figure indicates an increase by 10 percent as compared to the same period of the preceding year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported March 9.
The country’s copper concentrate output reached 87,045 tons during the calendar month of Bahman (Jan. 20-Feb. 21), down by 2 percent year-on-year.
Some 173,004 tons of cathode copper (1 percent increase) as well as 207,750 tons of anode copper (3 percent fall) were produced in Iran during the 11-month period.
The country’s cathode and anode copper output stood at 15,644 tons and 18,090 tons during the calendar month of Bahman.
Iran also produced 5,419 tons of molybdenum concentrate and 1,065 tons of molybdenum during the 11-month period, indicating a fall by 4 percent and a rise by 70 percent, respectively, year-on-year.
Iran possesses the world’s second largest copper reserve. At present, six copper mines are operating in the country.
Iran’s copper production capacity stands at around 200,000 tons per year and the capacity is projected to double by March 2020.
