BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 5. Iran has invested a total of 36 trillion rials (around $62.9 million) in the railway vehicles launched on February 4, Jabbar Ali Zakeri, Deputy Minister for Roads and Urban Development of Iran, Executive Director of the Iranian Railways Company, told reporters, Trend reports.
According to Zakeri, a total of 407 railway vehicles were introduced on that day.
This includes 16 new and refurbished locomotives, which cost approximately 14 trillion rials (around $24.5 million).
Additionally, the official mentioned the deployment of 360 freight wagons, which required an investment of about 12 trillion rials (around $20.9 million). In terms of passenger services, 31 new passenger cars were added to the fleet, with a production cost of 10 trillion rials (around $17.5 million).
"Additionally, around 57 kilometers of the Yazd-Kerman railway line were recently renovated, with an investment of 11.4 trillion rials (around $19.9 million). This upgrade doubled the train speed from 60 km/h to 120 km/h, improving travel efficiency,” he added.
To note, the length of railway lines in Iran is 14,984 kilometers. A total of 993 locomotives, 29,950 freight cars, and 2,178 passenger wagons are operating on Iran's railroad lines.
