BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 16. Iran's small-scale power plants raised electricity production by 8.4 percent during the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2024, through March 20, 2025) compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024).
Data obtained by Trend from the country's Ministry of Energy indicates that in the reporting year, this figure amounted to 6,060 gigawatt hours (GWh).
In the previous fiscal year, the energy output from small-scale
gas-fired generation facilities in the nation reached an estimated
5,840 GWh, while the production from small diesel-fired generation
units totaled 245 GWh.
At present, the capacity for electricity generation from
decentralized power generation facilities within the nation is
quantified at 2,900 megawatt hours (MWh). Iran's total electricity
production potential is 93,455 MW. The generation capacity of the
indigenous thermal generation facilities stands at 76,257 MW, while
hydroelectric installations contribute 12,144 MW, retail generation
units account for 2,485 MW, renewable energy systems yield 1,300
MW, the Bushehr nuclear facility delivers 1,020 MW, and diesel
generation units provide 408 MW.
