At least three people were wounded when clashes erupted Friday in northern Lebanon between supporters and opponents of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's regime, Lebanese police say, dpa reported.
Rocket-propelled grenades and heavy gunfire shook the port city of Tripoli in the morning hours, but the exchanges had tapered off into sporadic sniper fire later on, say the police.
Army vehicles and troops have intervened to stop the clashes between the Sunni neighbourhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh, who oppose al-Assad, and the Alawite residents of Jbal Mohsen, who are close to the Lebanese Shiite movement Hezbollah.
