Iran's Majlis (Parliament) has called on the international community to take serious action against the murderers of Iranian prisoner Ali-Reza Asgari in an Israeli prison, Press TV reported.

The martyrdom of Asgari by the Israeli regime constitutes a crime, which unveils the dimensions of a major issue, Spokesman for the Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Kazem Jalali said on Wednesday.

Asgari, a former deputy Defense Minister, mysteriously disappeared in Turkey in 2007. He was believed to have been abducted and transferred to Israel.

"There was no news of Asgari until a rumor began to circulate that he was in the occupied territories. At the time the [Israeli] enemy tried to make it seem as though he (Asgari) had sought asylum in a third country," Jalali added.

Jalali revealed that recently Israel media outlet reported that Asgari committed suicide in an Israeli prison but immediately removed the news story from their website.

He was referring to the Ynet report which stated that a prisoner had committed suicide in solitary confinement in Ayalon prison. The Euroasia Review website later claimed that a source within the "inner circle" of the Israeli defense ministry had identified the prisoner as Asgari and that his death could have been murder and not suicide.

The report about Asgari's martyrdom in an Israeli prison shows that we were right to say the Israel had kidnapped our former deputy defense minister, Jalali said.

The Iranian lawmaker reiterated that the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission would seriously follow up the issue.

" We seriously demand that the international community take necessary action regarding this issue and be answerable as to how an Iranian citizen was kidnapped by the Zionist regime's intelligence apparatus in a third country and ...was jailed, tortured and later martyred."

Jalali said that if Asgari is alive he must be handed over to Iran and if he has been martyred his body must be given back to the country.
