BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 25. Efforts will be undertaken to protect the Shollar water pipeline, Trend reports via the unified internet portal for public procurement.
The Directorate of Construction Projects under the State Agency for Water Resources of Azerbaijan has begun preparations in this regard.
Specifically, project and construction work will be conducted to protect the 1st Shollar water pipeline at the Valvalachay crossing.
The organization estimates that the cost of these efforts will amount to 3.3 million manat ($1.94 million).
To note, the Shollar-Baku water supply system is the first pipeline built for drinking water supply to the Absheron Peninsula. It originates from underground water in the village of Shollar, near Khudat city in the Khachmaz district. The construction of the pipeline, designed by English engineer William Lindley, dates back to the early 20th century. Built with the direct support of the renowned Azerbaijani philanthropist Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, it has been providing the population of Baku with water for over 100 years.
