The Russian delegation in the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) rejected the organization's resolution on the outcomes of the war between Russia and Georgia. There are numerous controversial issues in the document, Russian delegation head Konstantin Kosachev said. "We would have supported the resolution if our amendments had been approved," Kosachev told Trend . Russia regrets that PACE has once again missed the opportunity to take a more realistic approach, he said.
The PACE resolution said the organization reaffirms its full support of the October resolution.
The resolution also states that Georgia fulfilled most items in the document, while Russia has not met even the most basic requirements.
Kosachev said after the October discussion, PACE was slowly approaching a more balanced approach to the issue.
"I am very pleased that influential MPs with whom we have cooperated have admitted our arguments and started discussing this issue in a completely different way," Kosachev said.
Kosachev thanked Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Thomas Hammarberg as "indeed he was working on behalf of our organization."
Large-scale military operations were launched in South Ossetia on the night of Aug. 8.
Georgian troops entered South Ossetia's capital Tskhinvali.
Later Russian troops seized the town and drove troops back to Georgia.
On Aug. 26, Russia recognized the independence of South Ossetia and Abkhazia and established diplomatic relations with the territories on Sept. 9.
