The Sumgayit Court of Appeal will consider an appeal of ex-editor-in-chief of Khalq qazeti, author of articles in New Musavat newspaper, Mahal Ismayiloglu, who was sentenced by the Baku Court of Appeal of the Absheron region, on Aug.18, lawyer of Ismayiloglu, Alayif Hasanov told Trend .
The Baku Court of Appeal sentenced Ismayiloglu to two years of imprisonment. In his appeal the journalist required justification in a case brought against him.
Criminal case on Ismayiloglu was filed on the basis of housemaid's complaint working in his neighbors' house. Former editor-in-chief is accused of Article 128 of the Criminal Code (less intentional health hazard).
Nasiba Nurush, the suffered, claims the journalist exerted physical pressure and insulted her. Ismayiloglu considered the criminal case as ordered, saying that they want to punish him for his articles criticizing the state power.
