ASTANA, Kazakhstan, October 8. Kazakhstan is reviewing an investment proposal for building a new sugar factory, Trend reports, citing the press service of Kazakhstan's Prime Minister.
The project was presented at a government meeting led by Deputy Prime Minister Serik Dzhumangarin.
The plant, spearheaded by K-Agro and Baiterek Holding, will be based in the Zhambyl region. The factory will process 8,000 to 10,000 tons of sugar beets daily, producing around 130,000 tons of sugar annually.
This initiative, alongside upgrades to existing sugar plants, aims to reduce Kazakhstan's reliance on sugar imports by increasing local production. Currently, the country operates four plants with a combined capacity to process 8,700 tons of sugar beets daily.
In 2023, Kazakhstan’s domestic sugar demand hit 507,000 tons, most of it supplied by imports. This new project underscores the government's push to strengthen the agricultural sector and enhance food security.
