ASTANA, Kazakhstan, December 10. The Government of Kazakhstan kicked the tires on the progress of modernizing five major transport and logistics hubs, Trend reports.
At a meeting of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan, chaired by Prime Minister Olzhas Bektanov, the issue of developing cross-border hubs was reviewed. Minister of Trade and Integration Arman Shakkaliev reported on measures to establish a network of border trade and economic hubs, attract investments, and strengthen the country’s export potential.
Minister Arman Shakkaliev informed the government leader that work is currently underway to establish five cross-border hubs, for which rail and road connections have already been laid:
The "Khorgos Hub" will become a key element in trade and economic cooperation with China;
The "Caspian Hub" will serve as a link in the Trans-Caspian route;
The "Eurasia Cross-Border Trade Center" will spur industrial cooperation with the Russian Federation;
The "Central Asia" Cross-Border Hub will contribute to the development of industrial cooperation and goods distribution along the border with Uzbekistan.
The Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex will create conditions for project implementation along the border with Kyrgyzstan.
Additionally, the creation of container hubs at the ports of
Aktau and Kuryk in the Mangistau region, and multimodal air hubs at
the airports in Astana, Almaty, Shymkent, and Aktobe is being
worked on.
Deputy Prime Minister Serik Zhumangarin has established an
Operational Working Group to ensure the successful implementation
of the projects. Local executive bodies currently hold the
projects, and they will collaborate with investors to ensure their
practical implementation.
"The implementation of the 'Central Asia' hub project on the border with Uzbekistan will increase the capacity of the railway infrastructure by 20 million tons per year. The creation of a container hub at the port of Aktau will boost cargo turnover from 92,000 to 300,000 containers per year," emphasized Olzhas Bektanov.
Bektanov also paid special attention to the problem of securing an electricity supply for the Industrial Trade and Logistics Complex.
Effectively utilizing the potential of the East-West and North-South corridors, as well as the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR), is crucial as they provide access to markets in China, the Persian Gulf countries, the Caucasus, and Europe.
