ASTANA, Kazakhstan, February 12. A Memorandum
of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of Labor and Social
Protection of Kazakhstan and the Gangmasters and Labour Abuse
Authority (GLAA) of the UK, Trend reports via the Ministry of Labor and Social
Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
As part of the Strategic Dialogue "Kazakhstan – UK" held in London,
the Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the Ministry of
Labor and Social Protection of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the
GLAA of the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland. The document
provides for cooperation in the field of labor migration.
The Memorandum was signed by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs
of Kazakhstan Roman Vassilenko and the UK Minister for Europe,
North America, and the Overseas Territories, Stephen Doughty. The
document foresees cooperation in the following areas:
Exchange of information on the conditions and procedures for the temporary employment of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the United Kingdom;
Exchange of information on the activities of private employment agencies sending workers from Kazakhstan to the UK for labor activities, as well as the confirmation of their activities following the laws of the host country;
Cooperation aimed at ensuring and protecting the labor and social rights of citizens of Kazakhstan during their employment in the United Kingdom, including under the Tier-5 seasonal worker visa program;
Exchange of information on in-demand professions and the
necessary professional training for citizens of Kazakhstan.
The signing of this Memorandum is an important step towards
strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UK in the
field of labor rights protection.
To note, diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and the UK were
officially established on January 19, 1992. The United Kingdom
opened an embassy in Kazakhstan in October 1992. Kazakhstan opened
its embassy in the United Kingdom in February 1996.
