ASTANA, Kazakhstan, April 9. Serial production of passenger cars for JSC "Passenger Transportation" (a subsidiary of Kazakhstan Railways) has begun at the LLP "Stadler Kazakhstan" plant in Astana as part of the railway transport modernization program, Trend reports.
According to the press service of JSC "Passenger Transportation," the project is moving full steam ahead under a contract that calls for the production of 557 cars by 2030. These will encompass compartment cars, economy class cars, specialized cars for those with disabilities, and generator cars.
As per the contract, the company will receive 51 cars this year. The plant will also provide technical maintenance for the cars over a 20-year period, ensuring their smooth operation and extending their lifespan.
"The management of JSC 'Passenger Transportation' visited the plant and received a detailed overview of the production process. During the visit, company representatives inspected the completed passenger and generator car bodies and toured all production workshops," said Kazakhstan Railways in a statement.
Currently, the plant, which employs over 400 people, operates a full technological cycle, including body welding and painting, electrical component assembly, production and installation of bogies, interior fitting, and static and dynamic testing before the cars are delivered.
"Over the past two years, the plant has undergone modernization, introducing advanced technologies and training local specialists, which has ensured a high level of localization," the company added.
According to Kazakhstan Railways, the Stadler cars are a cozy nest of compartment cars, each boasting 40 sleeping spots for a good night's rest. They will be decked out with state-of-the-art air conditioning, eyes in the sky for video surveillance, cozy electric heating, and fire suppression systems that spring into action like clockwork.
"Each compartment will feature electrical outlets and built-in USB ports for charging mobile phones during the journey, enhancing passenger comfort. The new cars will also have an exterior design in blue, yellow, and white colors. They have been specially designed for Kazakhstan's operating conditions, taking into account the country's climate and long distances between cities," the company concluded.
JSC "Passenger Transportation" is a Kazakhstani company focused on providing passenger transportation services. It is a subsidiary of the national company "Kazakhstan Temir Zholy" (Kazakhstan Railways).
