ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 19. Bank card usage continues to deepen across Turkmenistan, with regional figures showing broad national coverage.
The data obtained by Trend from the country's Central Bank shows that as of July 1, 2025, the total number of active bank cards in circulation reached 6,164,275. Ashgabat leads the country with 2,015,401 cards, followed by the Mary region with 1,104,632 and Lebap with 993,379. The Balkan and Dashoguz regions recorded 644,651 and 773,284 cards, respectively, while Ahal had 617,948 and the newly established city of Arkadag registered 14,980 cards.
The figures reflect ongoing efforts to modernize Turkmenistan’s financial system and promote cashless transactions across both urban and rural areas.
Established in 1991, the Central Bank of Turkmenistan plays a central role in overseeing the country’s financial infrastructure, including currency issuance, banking supervision, and the regulation of monetary policy.
