ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, July 18. The expansion of point-of-sale (POS) terminals across Turkmenistan continues to support digitalization in retail and services, with 37,263 units active throughout the country as of July 1, 2025.
Data obtained by Trend from the country's Central Bank indicates that Ashgabat remains the center of digital transaction infrastructure with 12,327 terminals, followed by the regions of Lebap (6,140), Mary (6,074), and Balkan (5,116). Dashoguz and Ahal report 5,063 and 2,415 terminals respectively, while Arkadag, the country’s newest city, accounts for 128 devices.
The steady regional distribution reflects the government’s strategy to promote financial inclusion and reduce reliance on cash, in line with the national digital economy development framework.
The Central Bank of Turkmenistan, established in 1991, continues to oversee the country's financial system, playing a key role in maintaining economic stability, regulating monetary policy, and supporting national economic initiatives.
