Investment conferences to be held in Azerbaijani regions in 2009 with USAID assistance

Azerbaijan, Baku, Dec. 15 / Trend , N.Ismayilova/ Azerbaijan Investment Company (AIC) in partnership with the USAID executive partner Chemonics International plans to hold investment conferences in Azerbaijan's different regions, AIC said on Dec. 15.

The first conference took place in Guba on Dec. 11, 2008. Over 20 companies attended the conference and presentations were made by AIC, Caspian International Investment Company, USAID, PSCEP, International Financial Corporation and Davachi Broiler.

AIC is a state-owned joint stock company established in March 2006 by Azerbaijan President Aliyev, with an initial capitalization of AZN 90mln. The main purpose of AIC is to promote local and foreign direct investment and portfolio co-financing, within the non-oil economic sectors of Azerbaijan.

The USAID PSCEP, with support from the Government of Azerbaijan, will improve private sector competitiveness in six key sectors and eight subsectors of the economy. Potential sectors under consideration include: Fruit and Vegetables, Animal Products, Information Communication Technology, Light Manufacturing, and Packaging.

On Dec. 15, exchange rate totalled 0.805 AZN/USD.
