Temirkhan Dosmuhambetov, the Kazakh tourism and sport minister, announced in parliament on Monday that the volume of investments in the Kazakh tourism industry grew by 28 percent and amounted to 107.5 billion tenge (146 tenge is $1).
"The growth dynamics in the number of hotels is kept thanks to this and the fact that the number of hotels increased by 8.8 percent is evidence to it," he said and added that the number of hotels is 1,460 in the country.
Revenue from tourism activities increased by 15.3 percent to over 78 billion tenge. In addition, the total number of tourists reached 11.4 million for the first nine months of 2010. This was under the first year of the implementation of the Tourism Industry Sectoral Development Programs which last until 2014.
